Diet Trapped

Q: Do you think eating low carb means making meat the centerpiece of your dish?

A: Most people believe that eating no carb foods, such a fish, poultry and red meat, and cheese, is the way to eat a low carbohydrate diet. Problem is, these foods are rich in some nutrients, but as a whole they are nutrient poor because of the nutrients you need that they don’t contain (such as phytonutrients) and the substances that they do contain that you don’t need from dietary sources (such as cholesterol and saturated fat). If you “base” your diet on these foods, for weight loss purposes, just know that you are eating a nutrient poor diet that ultimately undermines your health and performance.

The healthy way to control carbohydrates it to get rid of processed carbohydrates such as refined grains, refined sugar etc and replace them with real food carbohydrates, which you need for sustained activity levels.

If you are inactive, you want to control your carbohydrate intake relative to your active levels and the only and healthy way to do this is to eat vegetable “based” diet which includes carbohydrates in a non-excessive way and in the best form.

You have a choice, eat lots of meat with low to no carbohydrate that comes with health consequences or eat lots of vegetables and get health promoting carbohydrate, in your body.
