<p>Everyone knows, (well almost everyone knows) that the base of a healthy diet is green vegetables, and that <strong>the centerpiece of any healthy diet is the salad!</strong></p>
<p>There is something amazing about salads; besides being the most nutrient rich meals of the day, they are light and filling. Depending on how you prepare them they can one of the most filling nutrient rich meals of the day.</p>
<p>Like "the sandwich" and other food preparation franchises, there are unlimited ways to make a salad. <strong>The constant is leafy greens. </strong></p>
<p>Now, as popular as salads have become, and as healthy and convenient as they can be as a staple in any healthy diet no matter what brand or diet type, salads are the subject of as many diet traps as the Standard American Diet.</p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>Well, the reason is, you can put just about anything on a salad in the world of westernized diets and have it still be called a "salad".</p>
<p>Now one of the biggest diet traps of modern day salads is the dressing.</p>
<p>First, let me say, that the mark of a great salad dressing is that it's a whole food and one of the "food ingredients". If you were to run out of salad, you could then lick the bowl and eat up the salad dressing.</p>
<p><strong>But that's not the case with 99% of salad dressings. </strong></p>
<p>Would you ever consider putting a spoonful of ranch dressing in your mouth?Of course not.</p>
<p><strong>Here are the ingredients in the standard ranch dressing. </strong></p>
<div>1 c. mayonnaise<br />
1/2 c. sour cream<br />
1 tsp. garlic powder<br />
1 tsp. dill weed<br />
1/4 c. milk<br />
1 tbsp. parsley<br />
1 tsp. onion powder</div>
<div>1/4 cup buttermilk may be used instead.</div>
<div>Now why would you ever want to put a scoop of mayonnaise, in your mouth? combined with sour cream? And this is a mild ranch dressing and if you were running clean (eating a healthy diet), I assure you, after eating any significant quantity of this recipe would be a recipe for hacking up, Flem and a runny nose.</div>
<div>Why?</div>
<div>Because the ingredients are not whole foods, they are irritants that assembled taste pretty good, and drown out your salad.</div>
<div><strong>But why do you want to drown our your salad?</strong></div>
<div>Are you still thinking that vegetables and fruits and nuts and seeds don't taste good?</div>
<div><strong>And why wouldn't you want to have a salad dressing that was so tasty, you could drink the dressing?</strong></div>
<div>When you make whole food dressings, that's exactly what can happen for you.</div>
<div><strong>A whole food dressing recipe: </strong></div>
<div>A great recipe I use often:</div>
<div>chick peas in my vita-mix, smoothie blender, along with some peppers, orange juice and some veggie zest, and you can make an amazing whole foods dressings. We will share more whole foods dressings in our new book Nutrient Rich Dressings.</div>

First of all, there all all kinds of new more real food, whole foods salad dressings coming out, which you can get at grocers, like <a title="Whole Foods Salad Dressings" href="http://blog.wholefoodsmarket.com/2010/06/healthy-salad-dressing/" target="_blank">Whole Foods</a> Market. Most other grocery stores are not as progressive as Whole Foods, so you are not going to find healthy salad dressings at most grocers.</div>

<p>Nutrient Rich snacking is that much simpler, quicker and easier with a banana. Here are a few simple things you can do.</p>
<ul>
<li>Eat them plain; they are easy to carry around as they come in thier own container.</li>
<li>Eat them frozen for an icy, creamy treat.</li>
<li>Roll them in Dr. Fuhrman cocoa powder and chopped nuts and freeze for a delectable dessert treat.</li>
<li>Throw them in your shake instead of ice for a thick and creamy consistency.</li>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-5263" title="IMG_0777[1]" src="http://www.nutrientrich.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/IMG_07771-150x112.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="112" />If you want to learn a new lifestyle, just hang out with people who eat, think and live the way you want and you will learn some really cool things and develop new habits by osmosis. That's one reason we started The Lifestyle Coaching Center / online because we want people to see how it's really done!</p>
<p>We just held the first North Jersey Nutritarian Meet up at our center and had a pot luck nutrient rich meal with 3 new friends. Here it is in pictures and in video, like you were there yourself!</p>
<p>Five pioneering members kicked off the <a href="http://www.meetup.com/North-Jersey-Nutritarians/">North Jersey Nutritarian's Meet Up</a> and it was a great time. I'm not in the picture, because I was taking it and probably eating. <img src='http://www.nutrientrich.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>We had <a title="Dr. Fuhrmans' anti cancer soup" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSAH8dg2--w" target="_blank">Dr. Fuhrman's Anti Cancer Soup</a>, <a title="Dr. Fuhrmans Health Chocolate Cake" href="http://www.nutrientrich.com/recipes/dr-fuhrmans-healthy-chocolate-cake" target="_blank">Dr. Fuhrman's Healthy Chocolate Cake</a>, two different <a title="Quinoa, wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinoa" target="_blank">Quinoa </a>dishes, a <a title="Goji Berry Wolfberry" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goji_berry" target="_blank">goji berry</a> nut mix and a <a title="Watermelon" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watermelon" target="_blank">watermelon</a>.</p>
<p>This was great, not only because of the great food but also because this is often where you do some of you best learning when changing your diet style or lifestyle; in collaboration with others and in fun social situations. This was fun and we met new friends!</p>

<p>Yummy. Nutrient Rich. Simple to make.</p>
<p>Take a piece of tinfoil and wrap up a beet.</p>
<p>Slow bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour until you can easily stick a fork in. Let cool and skin will peel right off easily . Then you can cut it up and throw it on top of your salad.</p>

<p>You can also get fancier and add some pepper, thyme (or seasoning of your choice),  squeeze fresh lemon and a splash of vegetable stock. Form a tent out of the tin foil and slow roast for about an hour until beets are tender.  Once cooked, let cool and peel off the skin and slice into 2 inch squares. Add to salads or just eat plain.</p>
<p>Beets are part of a nutrient rich diet. You can steam,  bake,  shred. Check out other recipes in our data base. (They are even part of your healthy chocolate cake recipe)</p>
